A quick look at About PetFood
The Italian company About Petfood provides consultancy services to a wide range of players in the animal feed industry. Founder and general manager Davide Galaverna explains: “Both my colleague Diana Vergnano and I graduated with degrees in veterinary medicine from the University of Turin. We built up our expertise in the field and now we’re using it to help producers of raw materials or additives, white label distributors, animal feed shops, animal feed manufacturers, and so on.”
360-degree service
About Petfood mainly works with small and medium companies. “They don’t always have an internal product developer, so we’re often in direct contact with the general manager,” says Davide Galaverna. The company offers a pretty extensive range of services. “We support our customers in a lot of activities such as product development, recipe creation and optimization, quality control, labeling, nutritional advice, training on the job, regulatory consultancy, and scientific communication”, explains Diana Vergnano. “So, you can safely describe it as a 360-degree service.”
Many customers choose About Petfood because of their knowledge in the field of recipe formulation. “Sometimes producers ask us to create a recipe from scratch; in other cases, it’s about increasing the nutritional value or adding functional ingredients. The combination of our knowledge with high-performance software ensures optimal results and maximum customer satisfaction,” says Davide Galaverna.
Time-and place-independent collaboration in the cloud
Eighteen months ago, About Petfood switched to BESTMIX® Recipe Management formulation software. “I’ve known BESTMIX® consultant Pierpaolo Camera for a long time. Although I’ve always enjoyed working with him, of course, it was also important that the software would offer added value. We weren’t disappointed. What caught my eye at first glance was the impressive user-friendliness. After working with the software for a while, I saw that BESTMIX® Recipe Management offers many other valuable features.”
Davide Galaverna and Diana Vergnano often work together on projects. “When that happens, it’s useful to be able to share and edit information remotely and at any time. Evaporation losses
The fact that BESTMIX® Recipe Management takes evaporation losses into account provides great added value to the formulation process. “We work with both wet and dry ingredients and recipes with different moisture contents. BESTMIX® Recipe Management includes evaporation losses in the calculations, which allows us to calculate the nutritional values of the end product even more accurately and easily,” Diana Vergnano says.

The implementation of new software always presents challenges. “The biggest challenge was to migrate all the data from our previous software to BESTMIX® Recipe Management. When a small bug did manifest itself, Pierpaolo immediately provided a solution,” remembers Davide Galaverna.
