The Nutri-Score system is no longer a novelty. It is being used widely and is considered a helpful and readable guide for consumers who want to make healthier food choices at the point of purchase. Although some people are still not convinced of its use, Adifo had to accommodate those clients who are. Quick recap: What is Nutri-Score?
The Nutri-Score system makes use of a color scale ranging from green to red. Green labels indicate healthy products while red labels point towards products that should ‘be used sporadically’. Every color is combined with a letter that corresponds with the product's ‘health-score’. The color and letter assignment of the Nutri-Score label is based on the Ofcom algorithm. A Nutri-Score label does not only take ‘unhealthy’ products or nutrients into account. Besides the total amount of sugar, saturated fatty acids, salt and calories, the system also deals with the more positive ones, such as fibers, proteins, fruits and vegetables. It is also possible to make a distinction between products, such as drinks, cheeses or oils. However, the system has its limitations as well. For example, portion sizes are not taken into account. The score only applies to 100g or 100ml of a single product.
